TOP 10 Music Festivals around the world

I have a huge list of electronic dance music festivals I wish to attend every year but it is obviously not possible to do so majorly because of the far far away land I live in. But for any of you who will be travelling abroad or wish to know more about the excitement and entertainment these festivals can provide you with, Iv listed my choice of the top 10 dance music festivals around the world that cater to over thousands of fans and move you to the unlimited pumping beats keeping you energetic with their fair share of peaks and dips by world-renowned DJs and producers.

1. Global Gathering

Global Gathering is an annual dance music festival by Angel Music Group, the company behind Godskitchen, and is a key player in the international festival market.

With 10 music festivals across the globe in countries such as Ukraine, Poland, Turkey, Russia, Belarus, Australia and the UK every single event has surpassed all expectations with top class electronic music artists and market leading production.

The festival has been running since 2001 and the concept came about following an unprecedented interest in the opening of Angel Music Group’s new club Code (now renamed Air) the home of Godskitchen, the organisers recognised that there was a real gap in the market and potential to expand out of the club and into the fields, and what an excellent decision that turned out to be….

Held on the last weekend of July each year, GlobalGathering in the UK has established itself as a major UK dance festival since it began in 2001. It is held at Long Marston Airfield near Stratfort-Upon-Avon. It provides entertainment from a range of electronic genres, and includes live acts, house, trance and dubstep. The festival has grown to play host to over one hundred acts on sixteen stages, and has twice won the award for Best UK Festival in the DJ Magazine awards, including 2010.

2. Godskitchen

Godskitchen is an international superclub brand which is associated with dance music and organizes events, particularly in the UK and US. They held their first event in the UK at the Junction Nightclub in Cambridge, launching a series of sell out nights across the UK.

Godskitchen has grown over the years from a humble beginning into the UKs most influential dance institution leaving some of the biggest festival names in the industry behind it to acquire the No.1 position.since the early 90’s Godskitchen has been evolving and spiraling to reach new heights and raise the bar in Dance Music production.

3. Tomorrowland

Tomorrowland is held in Belgium as an outdoor dancing event (festival) organized every year in the town of Boom since 2005. The first names that showed up were Push(M.I.K.E),Armin van Buuren, Cor Fijneman, Yves Deruyter, Technoboy and Coone in that year.

The latest event was the seventh edition of the festival which was held between July 22nd and 24th, 2011, including Afrojack, Above and Beyond, Basto, Carl Cox, Fedde Le Grande, Ferry Corsten, Sander Van Doorn, Cosmic Gate, Swedish House Mafia, Tiesto, Laidback Luke, David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Kaskade etc.

It is a 3 day music festival that is amongst the biggest dance festivals in Europe. It’s unique fantasy amusement park setting is complimented by the dance heavy line-up featuring other similar sub-genres.

4. Sensation

Sensation is an indoor electronic dance music event which originated in the Netherlands and organized by ID&T. The original event, which ran exclusively in the Amsterdam Arena for a period of five years until 2005, is now located throughout Poland, Spain,Austria, Chile, Germany, Belgium, Hungary, Czech Republic, Latvia, Russia, Denmark, Turkey, Portugal, Ukraine, Norway, Romania, Serbia, United Kingdom, the United States (starting 2012), South Korea (Starting 2012), Thailand(Starting 2012), and in Taiwan (Starting 2012)In 2008, it was announced that for the first time Sensation would be held on New Year’s Eve in Melbourne, Australia as well as in Dusseldorf, Germany and Barcelona, Spain.

In 2000 and 2001, it was made up of one edition, just called Sensation, but it has now been split up into two editions: Sensation Black and Sensation White. This was done to differentiate the music and feeling more than would have been possible if it were one event. Sensation Black focuses more on ‘darker’ music, like Hardstyle and Hardcore, whereas Sensation White focuses more on House Music.


White Sensation used to be a trance event, but in later years it has become a pure house event. All the attendees are required to wear white and the Amsterdam ArenA itself is decorated to match. Sensation White’s slogan is “Be Part Of The Night – Dress in White”. Notable DJs that have appeared at Sensation include Tiesto, AVB, Swedish House Mafia, Andre Tanneberger, Darren Emerson (one of the Underworld members), David Guetta, Erick E, Ferry Corsten, Marco V, Paul Van Dyk, Johan Geilan, Sander Klienenberg, Steve Angello, Fedde le grand, Sebastian Ingrosso, Sander Van Doorn, Mason,  Felix Da Housecat, Laidback Luke, Tocadiso and Rank 1.

Sensation Black (since 2008, BLACK) slowly builds up the pace, starting from hardcore, hard style to hard trance Sensation Black is always held in the second weekend of July. All attendees are required to dress completely in black.

Notable DJs that have appeared at Sensation Black include Showtech, Angerfist, Headhunterz, Marcel Woods, Chris Liebing, Dj Lady Dana, DJ Luna, DJ Zany, The Prophet, Technoboy, Tommyknocker, Yoji Biomehanika and Mauro Picotto.

5. Ultra Music Festival

Ultra Music Festival is an annual outdoor electronic music festival that occurs in March in the city of Miami and Florida. Previously, the festival coincided with the annual Winter Music Conference, also held in Miami, however, as of 2011, the two are held on separate weeks.

Ultra is held in Downtown Miami in Bayfront Park. It was a 1-day festival from 1999–2006, a 2-day festival from 2007–2010, and was a 3-day festival in 2011-2012. It is North America’s second largest electronic music festival, after the Electric Daisy Carnival. In 2012, a record 60,000 people attended the festival per day.

6. Electric daisy Carnival

Electric Daisy Carnival is an annual electronic dance music festival held in the South West United States on the last weekend of June. The event was held in Southern California from 1997 to 2010, and was moved to Las Vegas in 2011.

The first Electric Daisy Carnival was held in 1997 at the Shrine Expo Hall. The name usage was acquired by Insomniac’s partner Philip Blaine. This refers to the name borrowed from Steve Kool-Aid’s original creation from several years prior whom Philip knew through his colleague Gary (Steve’s partner) at 1500 Records. In the past, there have been many unique venues in Southern California that have played host to the annual electronic music festival. These include the Los Angeles Memorial Colesium and Exposition Park in Los Angeles, National Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino, Queen Mary Events Park in Long Beach, Lake Doleros Waterpark in Mark Lapro Barstow, Hansem Dam in Sylmar, and the International Agri-Center in Tulare. The festival has sold out venues with 30,000 maximum capacities and reached crowds of 100,000 (40,000+ on Friday; 90,000+ on Saturday) recently in Los Angeles in 2010, making it the biggest electronic music festival outside Europe, earning it the nickname the “America Ibiza”.

Insomniac Events have also brought the festival to other regions including Colorado and Dallas. 2009 marks the first year that the festival is brought to Puerto Rico. In 2010 the event expanded to include Dallas, Texas, and in 2011, an event in Orlando, Florida was added. In 2012 the Electric Daisy Carnival also expanded to New York with a 3 day festival.

Future Music Festival is an annual dance music festival held in major cities throughout Australia in the months of Mid February – early March.

8. Trance energy

Energy (formerly known as Trance Energy) is a Dutch dance event featuring Electronic Dance Music DJs from around the world. Traditionally, there was a “small” edition and a big edition each year. In 2002, the small edition failed to sell out its 20,000-person ticket capacity (only 15,000 tickets were sold) and thereafter, Trance Energy was only held once annually, at the Jaarbeurs convention center in Utrecht, Netherlands, where it has been sold out each year up to 2009.

Past 2003 editions of Trance Energy usually focus on three stages located in different halls of the Jaarbeurs convention center, The mainstage, The Madhouse and an alternate stage.

Since 2007, a fourth stage has been added, the “Hard Stage” featuring harder derivatives of Trance Music. In 2009, students of the Utrecht School for the Arts were asked to design the entrance of the festival. They created a multi-disciplinary entrance, where interactivity, game-elements, video, fashion and music came together.Trance Energy toured Australia in 2009.

9. Winter Music Conference

The Winter Music Conference is a weeklong Electronic music conference, held every March since the mid-1980s in Miami,Florida,United States. The WMC is recognized for serving around 60,000 visitors during one week.

Winter Music Conference, in its 27th consecutive year, is one of the most publicized annual music gatherings in the world. A pivotal platform for the advancement of the industry, WMC attracts thousands of artists and music industry delegates from 70 countries and over 100,000 event attendees each year for a concentrated schedule of more than 400 events, parties, seminars and workshops.

Established in 1985, WMC is the largest music industry gathering of its kind in the world.

10Sunburn

Sunburn is an electronic dance music festival held in Candolim Beach, Goa, India. The festival is an amalgamation of music, entertainment, food and Shopping, and was ranked by CNN in 2009 as the ninth best festival in the world. The festival is organized by Percept, in partnership with Nikhil Chinapa. Held over three days, the festival has multiple stages with artists playing simultaneously daily.

Sunburn Goa 2007

In 2007, Percept partnered with Nikhil Chinapa and organized the first International Dance Music Festival in Goa, India. Sunburn Goa 2007 was sponsored by Smirnoff and took place on 28–29 December just at Candolim beach. In its first year Sunburn included performances from Carl Coz, Above and Beyond and Axwell as headline acts. Other acts included John oo Fleming, Pete Gooding, Dj Pearl, Jalebee Cartel, Super 8 & Tab, held on two stages with DJs playing simultaneously. The festival was hosted by Nikhil Chinapa and Rohit Barker. The line-up announcement and early bird passes commenced during the end of October.

Sunburn Goa 2008

The festival was themed Electric Circus and was held on two main stages: “Banyan Tree” for Trance acts and “Circus Stage” for House Music. There was also a VIP stage, flea market and beach volley ball courts. Having tied up with Defected Records in 2008, the label brought house DJs Simon Dunmore, Shapeshifter, Shovel playing. Headlining the festival were GMS, Gareth Emery and John 00 Fleming.

Sunburn Goa 2009

Sunburn Goa 2009 had turnout of over 22,000 fans. It also saw the launch of “After Dark” parties which took place at club Butter from 10.30 pm until 5 am, making Sunburn a 24 hour festival. Sunburn brought to India for the first time, DJ Armin van Buuren who headlined the festival along with Latin House DJs Roger Sanchez and John 00 Fleming. Sunburn’s line-up also included tech house DJ Sultan and trance DJ Sander van Doorn. Previously in 2008, Sunburn had tied up with Defected Records but in 2009 Sunburn tied up with UK clubbing company Gatecrashers. Acts included Jalebee Cartel, DJ Pearl, Ma Faiza, Nawed Khan and Designer Hippies.

Sunburn Goa 2010

Sunburn Goa 2010, took place on 27–29 December at Candolim Beach. The festival was sponsored by Tuborg. The headliners of the 2010 festival were Paul Van Dyk, Ferry Corsten and Axwell along with Sultan & Ned Shepard with Nadia Ali(Live), Richard Durand, GMS, Pete Gooding, Aly & Fila and DJs Pearl, Ma Faiza and Sanjay Dutta.

Sunburn passes went live on 5 November 2010 with the early bird passes and pre-booking sale passes being sold out in 22 minutes.
